Hi all

can Automator read batch files .....in a folder, and output as text in TextEdit ?

Similarly, to the windows command DIR > B (which outputs to a text file, instead the screen), can this be done in Automator on the Mac ?

Never used Automator before, suppose i should start out somewhere, so hopefully this may be a good starting point. :)

Can you explain a bit more about what exactly you're trying to accomplish?

I have a folder full of files, least 1000+ that i wish to read the file names of each, and dump them in TextEdit, in order to print out ...

I thought of copying and pasting one by one, but thought Automator could do this.

To create a list of the filenames in a folder:
  1. Open the folder in Finder
  2. Command-A to select all
  3. Command-C to copy
  4. Open TextEdit
  5. Command-Shift-T to change format to plain text
  6. Command-V to paste
