from my webpage, i have a link (via javascript) that launches an hd quicktime movie in quicktime player.

what i want is quicktime player to automatically start playing as the download proceeds, as quicktime movies usually do when viewed from within safari. currently, even after the entire movie is download in quicktime player from my website, users must still push the play button.

not sure this is a setting within my movie file or web code....

It might be possible to force this in the plugin code of your website, but QuickTime Player has the user selectable preference to not auto-play movies, which probably overrides whatever you put in your code (otherwise it wouldn't be a very useful feature to have in the Player preferences).

Having said that, I do believe that by default the option to automatically play movies is set to On.

okay, i checked my quicktime prefs and i do indeed have auto UNchecked.

but, let me ask this then: what is apple doing on their website http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/ that has their movies auto-playing when i click, say, the 480p button, despite not having autoplay checked in my prefs?

I don't know. I'm sure Apple are using a streaming server, rather than just downloading the file to you and letting the plugin start playing whenever it has enough of the file. Are you using an actual streaming server on your setup?
