Autorun help

Play, for some reason, whenever I try to insert a disk, it never autoruns. So when I go to My Computer > Click on the disk drive, it says choose the program you want to use to open this file.

I have done a couple methods on the internet to try and make autorun work, but none of them work! Help!!!!

I disable autoruns on customers XP boxes for the simple reason that there's a hell of a lot a malware out there that thrive on it working. I stick shortcuts on their desktop instead.

Exactly. Wouldn't clicking on a short-cut activate the autorun anyway? I think MS was even thinking of removing the AutoRun function for removable discs.

That's exactly what will happen when malware/virus messes up your autorun.inf file. As Gav Mack said, don't rely on Autorun. In fact, if you want to be extra conscientious, just disable it completely. Otherwise, don't use it.

If you want to solve your current issue, go to My Computer, click Tools in the top menu, scroll down and select Folder Options, then under the View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders" and also clear the tickbox called "Hide protected operating system files." Press Ok and apply your options. Then click on the Folder tab and when the folder tree appears on the left, click on the drive you were trying to access. You should see a file there called autorun.inf. Just delete it.
