Autostart programs with MBP?

I have my new MBP running OS X and I have to take it a lot of places for work. I find my self needing to open programs as soon as the startup it complete mainly Mail and iChat.

Is there a way that I can have these programs autostart when I power on?

right click on the app in the dock and choose "open at login". god i love how user friendly macs are .

also why not just leave them open and sleep your MBP when your not using it. then when you resume the apps are there ready to be used instantly. when in sleep mode macbooks use very little power and the hard drive spins down so you cant break it when your moving your macbook around in your bag. they also have an accelerometer which temporarily shuts down components if its dropped in your bag.

And you can also manage them in System Preferences --> Accounts --> Login Items. Useful if you'd like some of them to start hidden. (Note that there is a bug that prevents Mail from starting hidden even when the option is selected...I'm pretty sure that still persists in Leopard.)
