To save blobs on your home computer you will need to download tiny umbrella or ifaith and save your SHSHs

If 4.1 is showing up as a savable SHSH, threadstarter must have a 3GS

Threadstarter - if your iDevice is indeed a 3GS, get the tutorial in iClarified.com to restore to 5.0.1/5.1.1 (procedure is the same)
Use Redsn0w re-restore.
If you are preserving baseband, use a No_BB IPSW

To get the blobs on your hard drive use tinyumbrella.
But again redsnow can get the blobs from cydia for your iphone when plugged in and then stitch them to a custom ipsw.
