average temp for macbooks?

I just wanted to know what the average temperature of a macbook is supposed to be. Mine is at roughly 65 degrees celcuis when im on it for about an hour. Mine was about the same. Maybe a few degrees hotter. Nothing to worry about.

ok good. i was a little worried that mine was too hot. i started to wonder when i noticed how hot it felt on my leg. and i just tested how hot it is when i place it on a table for a few minutes and it actually drops about 5-10 degrees c.

Yeah, right now mine is 67 degrees because it isnt on an even surface and therefore is not elevated. :-/

I did not take the temperature..but all i have to say is that it gets extremely hot

Mine is normally about 60 degrees C, after being on (not sleeping) for several hours.

mine is uaully around 55 C...


i stoppped using Firefox which seemed to have been creating the bulk of the problem. When I did use it, it was about 62 C

When I'm simply surfing the web or leaving it alone it seems to hold around 49-52C. When I have music and chatting going at the same time, it's around 58-63C. Only playing a DVD or World of Warcraft really gets it warm...With either one of those, I see average temps in the 68-70C range with a max of about 73C. I also use a Griffin iCurve, just fyi.

i can run mine on my lap at full load and it has touched 100 a few times, personally it does not bother me, it doesn't get that hot to the touch, it's never got too hot that i cant touch it and keep constant contact.

I've just received my replacement MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz vs my older 2Ghz model.

Using Core Duo Temp the processors run about the same temperature - up to about 70c max.

The 2.16 model is soo much cooler though overall, its like the fans actually remove the heat on this one. This is a week 23 one.

i never see it get above 70. unfortunately, running "quiet mbp" or photobooth causes it to idle in the mid 60s, which is hot, and causes it to moo.

I for one have yet to actually measure the temp on my Macbook, but just from using it on my lap I can say that it has a very low temperature compared to what I have read about here and from others. It rarely is even warm. Maybe I got a good one?

I haven't done anything to my MacBook but replace the hard drive with a 100GB Seagate Momentus 7200RPM and upgrade it to 2GB of OWC RAM. Other than that, it's a stock 2.0GHz, white MB that I purchased from my local Apple store. As I said, I have it on a Griffin iCurve, which elevates the computer about 6" above my desktop. I have yet to see it get above 73C...

Regarding fan noise: Yes, when the fans come on you can definitely tell in a quiet room; however, personally, it doesn't bother me. In fact it makes me feel better that the thing actually recognizes that it needs to cool itself. The fans don't usually kick in unless the lappy has been at 68-70C for an extended period of time and even then, they seem to cool it off quick enough to the point that they don't stay on very long. BTW, I'm using CoreDuoTemp 0.9 for my temperature measurements...

EDIT: To give you a feel for it, I have had my MB on for 11 minutes while surfing the web and checking email and it is sitting very comfortably at 37-40C (slight fluctuation) as I type this...

mine hovers between 65-70c , Running Logic I have seen 79c. Now i just observed something very interesting. I usually keep it propped up so there is a 1-2 inch gap underneath it from the desktop. I decided to let it run flat on the desktop and the temp dropped 5-8c. It is now running around 59-62c

Because you don't need the full 2.0Ghz of power. When you need them, they'll come on.

My MacBook idles at about 55ish. Listening to music, chatting on MSN and surfing the web sends it to around 63-65ish. It gets warm, but that's it. Not hot at all.

100?!?!?! WOW! Rendering 1080 video for over 10 minutes in final cut pro the highest I've ever seen is about 82. What were you doing on it??

with adium, camino, launchbar, itunes, two terminals sshd to other unix boxes, and a few other things open here and there i see an average temperature of about 48-53 degrees celcius. I never turn my laptop off either, I always just sleep it. The most I have ever had it to is about 68 degrees celcius.

Sorry if this is OT, but how do you like your iCurve with the MB?

I would also have to say that my numbers are comparable to yours although maybe a degree or two lower, otherwise they're pretty similar.

Ahhh I see. Yes that will definately push the temp up. I noticed that every time I use my MacBook on a soft surface, the fan constantly roars, and then once I move it to a desk, the fans stop. It makes sense, but I never really realized how fast the temps rise on a soft surface.

How serious are the actual heat issues though associated with the current line of MacBook & MacBook Pro's? I have a MacBook purchased a week ago and have not experienced any significant heat issues, but can they be aggrevated by putting them on soft surfaces for extended periods of time? And what is the risk of having a MacBook being too hot?

Mine typically does not run above 68 celsius and have only experienced the fan being turned on once, so I have no immediate cause for concern. Regardless, I don't want to use it consistently in a place that will cause it to heat up (like my bed) and end up with a dead HD.
