My main concern when buying an appletv is the fact you cannot play avi's and have to convert. Most of my library are non-compatible files and it would take days to convert... is there any program that is computer based that would allow my to stream AVI's to an appletv?

This is the stickup between an appletv and a boxee box

As far as I know there isn't. The :apple:tv doesn't have the codec support for it anyway. I was in the same situation as you, but went for the :apple:tv, because I would rather stability. There have been many reports of the Boxee Box not playing files for no apparent reason.

Get the ATV G1, atvflash it, and it'll play most formats you could name just by hanging a HDD off it with the library on it.

Or wait for someone to crack the atv G2.
