.avi files

I'm trying to copy avi files to dvd to play as a movie. Can anyone reccomend something that will
a: compress the files and b: display as a proper movie with menus etc.

You can import and edit .avi files in iMovie but you certainly can't create DVD-like menus and interfaces. For that you would use iDVD.
