Or more popular, download VLC. Its not exactly QuickTime but it plays everything a lot of people on here have ever thrown at it.

It beats the no sound/picture with .avi's QuickTime has - as is, without any extra plugins etc.

Yes, VLC works very well. Nice pice of software.

As said before to play avi files in Quicktime you need to install divx link here. click on the free download. it comes with a divx player but the codec is shared with Quicktime.
