.avi (XviD) to iTunes, how?

I use Handbrake for my DVD:s, but I also want to add my .avi files to iTunes and I've discovered that the file size changes significantly between different files when doing it through Handbrake.

For instance, one file becomes about half the size with no noticeable difference in quality when pulled through Handbrake, but using the same settings for another file I get a larger files than the original. This is quite annoying since I'd like to put all the files in Handbrake and just let it go through the queue, but now I have to redo every other file several times to find the right settings for that particular one.

I've heard that it's possible to open a .avi in QuickTime Pro and then just save it as .m4v in a matter of seconds, but when I googled it I found posts claiming this doesn't work with XviD (or all of them anyways)...

So. How do you guys port your XviDs to iTunes?

I have tried a lot of different options but my new favorite is a app on the Mac App Store called iVI. Its a drag and drop program (which bugs this crap about out of me about Handbrake, terrible UI). This program not only rips your dvd's, converts .avi's and .xvid's but it tags them with meta data to make them look like they came from the iTunes Store. Very good program, use the free trail and see if you like it.

Wow! iVI was ridiculously easy to use, and they had info even on small, foreign series (but not on Full Metal Jacket...)

For converting, nothing could be easier. But for DVD:s, there are way too few options for subtitles and so on...
