This fall, I bought the iPhone 16 Pro and the Pixel Pro 9. I also bought the Apple-branded and Google-branded cases. This is ~90 days ago. Look at the outcome. The Apple case is falling apart. The Google case is holding up waaay better.

After 30 minutes of various support channels, Apple refused a refund because I did not get Applecare. I could buy a $4 case on alibaba that would be higher quality. short AAPL?

^ What he said^, plus Apple makes probably the worst cases, why would anyone buy one?

What the Apple rep told you is true. If you had purchased AC+ when buying the phone and case together, it would gave been covered under against defect etc. Your picture does not show normal wear and tear much less defect.

Let’s be honest.

That case is not in that state due to normal wear and tear.

It’s been dropped, pulled about, ripped, or something along those lines.

Or did you get hungry?
I'm being honest. I take both phones with me and put them through essentially the same daily routine. The Apple case couldn't handle being removed from my pockets a few dozen times per day but the Google case could.
Looks like a dog got hold of it, especially the single puncture mark on the right.
I don't own a dog. The center one started small and grew.

I'm really sorry, I'm not buying it unless you have pockets will with blades and rocks.

That is not deterioration due to pocket wear

I think we all know Apple Silicone cases are fragile. This is an extreme example, but not outside the realm of possibility.

Pro tip: if you want a durable case, don’t buy silicone. It has some attractive qualities, but durability has never been one of them.

Pretty much this. I have the exact same case in the exact same color. I always keep the phone in the jeans pocket.

The case, besides some aquired "stickiness", is as new and the wear is same as in the years before.

This case has been a problem for many. I’ve seen the issues with this case on YouTube reviews. Too bad you can’t get a refund. I bought a $16 case from Amazon for my iPhone 14 and it’s held up great. I’ve had it for a year.

Not sure if that's generally true. I thought their leather cases were well-regarded. Granted, they are no longer made, but can still be bought as NOS if you need to replace the case on an older phone.

Clickbait YT videos... great source.

I've used Apple Silicone cases for a decade now, tried a few others, nothing comes close in terms of coverage (bottom part), haptics (even larger phones can be used one handed, because there is ample grip).

For me at least they start slowly chipping after 2-3 years on the edges, which is absolutely fine.

If you abuse the case, like the case is in this topic, then hard plastic cases are better.
