Thanks to @Night Spring the issue was resolved. Been Googling this for weeks and never found the XDA link. Apple could still make it a bit easier by allowing direct keyboard access from the inside iPhone WATCH APP but this works fine in the interim. Of course this does NOT resolve the constant password request issue but it makes it a lot easier to enter it.

--------------------------------------------------
My AW Ultra 2 constantly asks for my iCloud password. I have done a full reset multiple times and upon restoring it (from iPhone 16 ProMax) logs in but a few hours later I am again asked for password. When I enter the password all I get is 5 spinning dots like it is incorrect. It is not incorrect.

YES, password is correct
YES, wi-fi connected
YES, bluetooth connected
YES, I have fully erased and restored watch multiple times

The Problem is I have is I have bad arthritis in my hands & fingers and it is very difficult to enter the 8 digit mixed case & number password on the tiny keypad on the watch.

Any suggestions on what is going on?

Watch is on 11.0.1 and phone on 18.0.1

It seems the only way to resolve this is a full watch erase and restore and that only lasts for a few hours.

This is all I see when I go into setting on the AWU2 after entering CORRECT password:

The problem with a reset and restore is that if there's a software issue of some kind, you're possibly restoring it. In other words, it may do nothing overall, just waste your time.

What happens if you don't do a restore on the watch and set it up as a new watch?
But before that, I would log out of your Apple ID on your phone and log back in again. Then do the wipe on the Watch, but don't restore, and see if that resolves things. Don't install a bunch of apps, just see if it works as a basic vanilla deployment of a fresh OS on the watch.

The other thing that springs to mind is that it's a wrist detection issue. That's not going to prompt you for iCloud credentials but will make you enter you PIN. Is it too tight or loose? Do you have tattoos?

Or contact Apple directly of course. Always an option if your stuff is still under warranty.

I’m putting your password on the watch is a pain in the hind end. Apple should allow you to at least do it on your phone instead of watch.

@Howard2k I have no other apps loaded. Have done most of what you suggested. It seems to have lasted overnight, so maybe it "settled down". :) No problems for months but it suddenly stared about 2 weeks ago around when the .01 update was applied.

@Jackbequickly
100% for sure. Apple is (rightfully) so obsessed with accessibility features, that would be a no-brainer. It took like 15 years to be able to remove the flashlight from the home screen, :D this may show up in the next millennia.

Something similar happened to me, and it turned out that my Apple ID was incorrect. I contacted support, they called me, and I shared my screen with them. Then they escalated it to the developers, and the following week they called me, and it was working.

In my case, I noticed the problem on the Apple Watch, which kept asking for the password repeatedly. But when I tried to log in through a web browser on my computer, my Apple ID password didn’t work. I also couldn’t recover it (on the iPhone it worked, and I could change it, but I couldn’t use my account on any device where it wasn’t already logged in).

I hope this isn’t your case

Didn't we used to be able to do this? It's been a while since I had to type in a password on my watch, but I recall being able to do it from my iPhone.

EDIT: yup, found it.

It still works.

Of course it still works unless you are 77 years old with arthritic hands/fingers. :( In my OP I wrote:

Apple has so many "accessibility options" one would think this was an obvious place to add another one. They could simply make it possible to use the iPhone to type in the password if necessary. The larger screen was one of the main reasons for switching to the Ultra watch from my AW9.

But what I posted is a way to NOT have to use the tiny keyboard on the watch, and instead use the iphone keyboard to input letters to the watch.
