I’m worried about the smaller 42mm being too big on the wrist.
My wife has 40mm Series 6 for a while now and I wanted to get her the updated watch.

Has anyone here upgraded from 40mm or 41mm to the new 42mm? How does it feel on the wrist. Is it too big and resulting in returns?

I started mine with original 42mm and now we’ve come all the way to 46mm, even I think I should consider the smaller 42mm when upgrading from S9 45mm.

I will make the trip to Apple Store soon so we can try out in person. in the meanwhile, nny throughs and experiences are appreciated.

Went from 40mm series 4 to 42mm series 10. I used to have the original 42mm back in 2015 and that thing used to be so massive for my wrist.

I personally think the 42mm is "the biggest my wrist can handle without looking silly". It doesn't look huge, but its now more edge to edge on my wrist.

It looks great and I wouldn't go back to the 40mm anymore - It is time to move up... haha...

I went from 41 to the new 42. At first, it looked ok to me but after several days, I felt it overpowered my really small wrist (5.1”) and so I am returning it today. Along with that, I made another decision. It is possible that Apple will never go back to a smaller version, or a Stainless Steel version. I’ve purchased a Series 9 Stainless Steel on sale which I hope will last for a number of years.

As someone with the Ultra, naw you'll be just fine, especially since the 10 is thinner and sits a lot tighter to the wrist.
Really good point. The thinness makes up for the size increase for those who tend go for the smaller ones. Maybe thats why it doesn't look as horrendous as my series 0 did!

Trying in person is always best. Seems likely if your wife’s current model fits her OK, the 1mm difference won’t change that.

It’s a case by case basis. My wrists are small like yours and I owned a 38mm Apple Watch Series 1 and currently wear a 40mm S6. I tried on the new 42mm S10s at the Apple Store the past launch weekend, and it did get to the point where it would be big but not too big like the Apple Watch Ultra would. The bands fit the same on my wrist.

I imagined about it as well. My Mum has a 42mm SBSS S3 which is heavier than the new S10 42mm I tried on at my local Apple Store , and the Apple Watch Series 3 and earlier stainless steels used to be so heavy on the 42mm sizes. I now have a gold SS S6 and I don’t notice the weight difference at all.
