I've got a grandfathered AT&T plan, and hear they are refusing to activate the AW3 on those plans. Do I have to activate the LTE? Can I just not use that function, and have the same basic functionality as the AW0 that I currently have, ie: cell phone calls over Bluetooth, notifications, etc.

Thanks...

You don't have to activate the LTE feature. It only prompts you once during initial setup to ask if you want to setup Cellular.

Now on getting it activated on your old plan, we have had good success getting it done. It just takes a little extra work on your end. What exact plan do you have?

Can you enable LTE but toggle it off when you are not using it?
In addition to the link posted above, when you have Cellular disabled your Watch can't make Wi-Fi calls when not in range of your iPhone.

In Standby mode, Cellular toggle White it does use some additional power, it does provide a very flexible setting.

This is depressing. I had heard about this before, but am depressed that carrier issues allowed them to 'wag the Apple dog' on roaming. It really doesn't make much sense, especially considering that the iPhone can roam. Or is roaming with an iPhone now impossible too?

[doublepost=1509283900][/doublepost]And, so far, on the iPhone screen, all I get is the message 'Signing in to your account. This may take a few minutes.' Which was on the screen for HOURS!!!

I'm not feeling the love here...

I have the 'Nation 900 With Rollover' plan. I'd hate to give it up, although they always pounce on me at the local store to change it.
[doublepost=1509285824][/doublepost]Well, so it's 'working' now. Don't know what the difference is between yesterday and today. It's installing the apps, from what I can tell. And apparently I can have more than one Apple Watch at a time. That's cool. I don't want to end up beating on the Space Black so soon.

While you can pair up to 3 watches to a single iPhone, you can't share one Wearable plan according to reports. So if you want 3 Cellular models, you pay $10 for each.

On your specific plan, that's a hard one since it makes no mention of Unlimited Data. However, you might try going to a AT&T Corporate store and giving it a try.

Just keep saying I trying to add a $10 Wearable plan to my account. If the first response is that you need a Mobile Share plan, suggest the rep try adding a new line group and select an Individual plan instead of a Mobile group. Once the Individual line is selected the rep should be able to quickly find the stand-alone $10 Wearable plan. Make sure you have to watch's box for the IMEI and EID numbers that the rep needs to add to this new line. It would be even easier if the rep could activate the line.

Yes you can try phone reps but they have had some training on "not" to active a watch on these old Grandfathered plans. No technical reason, just a policy / business decision.

Note: Your watch has an Embedded SIM(eSIM) so the rep can't swap SIM and you don't have ICCID number to give to them to add to this new line. The eSIM is provisioned with a ICCID during the Set up Cellular steps done on your iPhone using the Watch app as it interacts with the AT&T system.

Thanks dave006. I read a lot of your other posts yesterday. I'm thinking I'm going to coast on this for a while, and let things be and take this up in a couple of weeks. I was deciding on whether to even keep the watch at one point. The stainless is the better one IMO, and the only way is to get the cellular version. Apple loves to up sell. AT&T loves to screw people. Either way...
