With all this talk about zinio for the iPad I came across a great deal

Subscribe to either Maxim- one year for 10 bucks or Blender-one year $ 7.97 and get a year free of your choice of auto magazine (road and track, car and driver etc.)!

Pretty good deal if you ask me!

Are zinio subscriptions separate from hard-copy subscriptions?

Like if I already get a hard copy subscription of Maxim do I get a discount on the Zinio version? Or the other way around?

I have heard that you can call them up and ask if they can transfer your hard subscription to a digital subscription. ymmv though

I already bought the Maxim subscription the other day. Am I screwed on this offer since I already bought it? Thanks.

That's exactly the kind of deals these magazines need to do. I would buy something like that.

Unfortunately, Zinio is too slow for my tastes. The load times are annoying.

Load times? Have you tried the iPad app and downloaded a magazine. Once it's downloaded it was really quick for me.

I guess once it's stored locally to your device it is much more responsive? but the samples, like what the others are noticing, is buggy and it does stutter at times...

Found the $10 Maxim deal myself too. Got through half of the current issue and the only issue is the page loads are a little slow, but not slow enough to be a deal breaker. Overall a very good reading experience.

I agree these subscriptions in the 8 to 12 dollar range are great and will sell.

Ditto, once they download it only takes maybe 1 or 2 seconds to fully render a page. I enjoy Zinio much more on my iPad than my desktop/laptop, great app.

Yup $1-ish per issue makes it feel similar to the $.99 app you buy because...why not?

IMO render times should be at or appreciably close to zero. You should be able to turn pages no slower than in say iBooks.

They're stored within the app so you don't see the file at all...

Thanks, I have been thinking about buying some magazine subscriptions but haven't made up my mind on which route to go: Zinio or hope they release an interactive App of the magazine.

I bought Maxim since I was interested in Car & Driver and for just a couple more get Maxim. It says an email will be sent in a week so that's all I have at this point (no other info or conformation was provided). Also I want C&D on the iPad and it's only iPhone. Wonder how fast Zinio is converting all mags to the iPad (new ones converted every day)? Any idea how long before C&D and all (or 95%) are converted?

So I guess after you make a purchase it doesn't download the current issue?

Wow I give Zinio Customer Support a giant 2 thumbs up. I subscribed to Maxim the day before this thread was started so I emailed them and asked if I was still eligible for the special offer. They asked me to send a link to the offer because they were unaware of the deal. I sent them the link that was posted here and they replied pretty quickly saying the deal was expired (Blender stopped production over a year ago).....BUT, they said they would still honor it so they asked which Auto subscription I wanted. I was very shocked they decided to honor it even though it was expired. I'll be subscribing to many more magazines through them.

For the people complaining about how slow it is to load, let the magazine download completely then read it. There is still a slight delay but its nowhere near as bad as people are saying. It takes like half a second for the page to focus

I did a trial like this on my laptop, so I have a years worth of magazines on my MBP. Does the zinio ipad app let me transfer those or redownload them, or does it only work with active subscriptions? I'd like to try them out on an ipad, I never really felt the e-mag format worked on a laptop

If you are still a current member then as long as the magazine issue is available in an iPad format it should be downloadable. However it's likely that Zinio won't take the time to go back and make iPad PDF's for all back issues though.

Hey folks,

I just got a newsletter from iPhone Life Magazine (full disclosure, I'm a blogger for them, btw) and they announced that if you subscribe to the print magazine, you'll get the Zinio version for free!
