I'm having this problem in anywhere you can use these 3 finger back and forward gestures (e.g. Finder). Sometimes it works and sometimes it will only work if I scroll up or down then use the 3 finger gesture. It's very frustrating. Anyone else having this or know a fix?

3 finger gestures control Spaces in Lion and ML. Are you trying to achieve this through a hack?

Edit: Hold down Opt while you swipe. That will enable history swiping in Finder. Otherwise you get the spaces change.

No in System Preferences > Trackpad > Swipe between pages I have it set to swipe with two or three fingers.

I don't really want to have to press any keyboard buttons to do what I was able to do on Lion.

Same thing happened to me in Lion immediately after installing, Apple never fixed it so dont expect a fix for M Lion. I did an upgrade for Lion, this time I did a clean install and so far it has yet to happen, did you upgrade?

Interesting. As a work around try Better Touch Tool.

What should I set the gesture to do?

Yeah I upgraded my mid 2012 11" MBA. If you're saying it doesn't happen when you did a clean install then I guess it might be worth it for me to give that a try if nothing else works.

You want them to emulate the keystrokes for forward and back, e.g. Command-[ and Command-].

It seems to work ok for me.

Oh ok. So far so good. Thanks for the tip!

Does this mean you also have this problem if you don't use BTT?

I am noticing the same.

Maddening as I use those all. the. time.

(And I don't recall this happening in DP4, though I used a built-in trackpad with that rather than a magic trackpad.)

I guess you could use danb77's solution for now. It's what I did and seems to be working all the time now.

The GM build completely screwed up the trackpad sensitivity on my 2012 MBP. Three and two finger gestures are off and not consistent, needing to repeat the gesture in order to get it to register. Feel like one of those PC trackpads. I did a clean install and it did not help either.

This is really unfortunate since I use the trackpad exclusively. Never had a single issue with the trackpad on any build or version of OSX (going back to 2003). Not sure how Apple screwed up this time.
