Confused by all of the pictures of the phones, I cancelled my preorders and went to the Apple Store this AM to investigate. Here are my conclusions...

1) The phones all feel smoother in the hand. The rounded edges, the new glass on the back of the regular 15s, make these phones all "feel" better when holding them without a case. I know some people think they may not feel as "premium," but they all feel better in the hand. I am sure with a case that these differences are mitigated, but the phones are all definitely shaped better.

2) The weight difference between the 14 and 15 Pro Max is there, but not revolutionary or anything. The 15 Plus is even lighter. But these are large phones. If you want the lightest phones, go with the regular 15 or regular Pro

3) I think, on the whole, this is the worst color lineup for iPhones in several years. Natural titanium is kind of bland and disappointing in person - really wanted that starlight/champagne tint, and it only comes out in some light on the titanium edge. The back looks pretty grey. Blue titanium looks sharp. Black looks dull. White was the surprise for me - it is a bit of an off white and looks kind of attractive. I would rank these colors blue, white, natural and black. The regular 15 colors are generally too washed out - with the exception of pink, which looks pretty on the mark. Really disappointed in yellow in person (I sit typing this on a yellow iMac, so I am predisposed to yellow Apple devices). Green and blue are OK, but too light. Black is fine. I would rank these colors pink, green, blue, black, yellow. However, the entire lineup of colors is vastly inferior to what we had for the 11, 12 and 13 series. Do better, Apple.

4) I want to like the iPhone 15 Plus - great designed phone, comfortable to hold, etc. But the combination of the weak colors this year, plus the lack of always on (I like the widgets) make it hard for someone like me to "downgrade" from a 14 Pro Max to a 15 Plus. I want to do it so badly so I get out of the Pro rat race, and get into a series with (usually) better colors, but not sure I can do it this year.

So what will I do? Honestly I may hold on to my 14PM for a bit and wait for the dust to settle. My gold Pro Max looks meaningfully better than any of the pro options available this year. I would upgrade, for what - a bit it lighter weight and a 5x zoom? The UI, screen, etc of the 15 Pro Max is exactly the same as the 14.
