Hello,

After getting Unlimited Data Back (Thanks AT&T!) I now have a reason to jailbreak again--tethering. Formerly an avid jailbreaker with all the tweaks, bells, and whistles, after losing Unlimited Data (need for tethering) along with high profile malware/hacks about 4 years ago, I stopped jailbreaking and have been out of the loop entirely.

Coming back to the jailbreak world, it seems that the old guard is all but gone. Chinese jailbreaks seem like the only ones out there, and I've never used them before, but from what I have read, "TAIG" and "Pangu" are legitimate. I don't know if I trust the Chinese jailbreaks to not be installing malware. I read that they do that and also install a Chinese jailbreak app store that is not Cydia. Sorry for my ignorance about the topic.

According to this page http://taig9.com/beta1/ there is a jailbreak for 9.3.1 (the version my 6s+ is running) It's unclear if that is untethered or not. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks!

That's a fake site. There is no jailbreak for anything above 9.1 (64 bit devices only) and there is definetely no 'beta' jailbreaks.

Here is Taig's official site. Notice there is no 9 in it. PS. Taig never jailbroke 9. That was Pangu.

Pangu's official site:
http://en.pangu.io/

Lastly, in regards to the 'Chinese' store, that is actually the reason for these jailbreaks. Both Taig and Pangu support by install a Chinese version of Cydia where hacks and tweaks are sold.

Very early Taig and Pangu jailbreaks installed the store by default and it was difficult to understand because it was all in Chinese.

Later versions are in English and give you the option to install or not the Chinese Cydia. Both will install Cydia (our version) itself no matter what you choose to do with the Chinese store.

Taig is notable for jailbreaking iOS 7 and 8 using an expired web certificate and some exploits that were covered at a jailbreak conference. This didn't sit well with American JB devs because it's stuff that was not ethical. They continue to use practices that American JB devs hesitate to use.

But everyone wanted a jailbreak so that's all in the past now.

That said, trusted American JB devs have said that both Taig and Pangu are legit. Other than the Chinese Cydia store, which you can opt out on, there is nothing in the JB that is either phoning home or spying on you or compromising your security.

In any case, since you aren't on 9.1 or less this cannot be any more to you than just information. Hopefully with the advent of iOS 10 there will be a JB released soon for the rest of iOS 9.

Without researching it, I'm going to say that page isn't legit. The two teams you mentioned are legit, but the problem is hundreds of people are faking a jb. Unless something changed today, the last iOS that can be jailbroken is 9.1
