13 Pro in a folio case. I like the idea of not using the power button every time I put the phone to sleep so I'm trying to use back tap (set for double tap) to lock. Trouble is that I have found it to be VERY inconsistent. Sometimes it responds to very subtle taps and sometime you could double tap it with a small hammer and it won't respond. Is there a preferred sweet spot? Actually, today I tried the upper right corner (my case has a sliding camera cover so tapping there is OK) and it seems to be working better.

Anyone found a better technique?

This is exactly why I don't consistently use back tap even though I have it set up.

I don't think this has ever worked perfectly. I remember trying it when it was new and was sporadic back on 15.0. Disabled it and never tried again.

I tried many locations around the logo and it never got anything near consistent. Right now, tapping the upper right corner (as viewed from screen side) seems noticeably better.

I suspect part of the problem is that the tap detection includes some sort of algorithm to reject spurious vibrations. If both taps are not clean and strong, it seems to reject one and then only see one tap. Based on my experience, that discrimination also seems to cause the next two taps to be rejected if they occur before the routine times out and resets. Rinse and repeat. The whole thing seems very poorly executed.

Too bad you can't simply use a double tap on the SCREEN to lock the phone. Sensing taps there works perfectly.

I use back tap for orientation lock. I found it terribly inconsistent on my 13 Pro Max until I found the sweet spot. Tapping on the cameras works for me without fail every single time.

Interesting! That is essentially the same place I found except I use the right top corner instead of taping the cameras themselves. It is not really 100%.... more like 90%. But that is a drastic improvement over anywhere else.

I have a 13 Mini, SE 2020 and a 13 Pro. All have Apple silicone cases on them. The only difference is the SE 2020 doesn't have the MagSafe as can see the "circle" in the 13s looking at the inside on the backside of the cases.
I can tap anywhere on the back of the SE 2020 and it works. Tapping anywhere within the "Circle" on the 13s don't,
outside works. IMO that part of the MagSafe case is the problem.
