My Time capsule is dying a slow death and its not made anymore. I loved the seamless automatic back up.

What can be used to back up the iMac automatically each day? I also have a windows 10 computer on my desk. If one appliance can back up both that would be ideal.

I realize this is a MAC forum but I thought I would ask since many on here are knowledgeable about both eco systems.

A Synology NAS would handle the task. If you don't need much more capability you can often pick up used ones on eBay or Craigslist and save a few bucks.

You can replace the hard drive in your Time Capsule if that's what is going bad. Check Ifixit for instructions. They rate the difficulty as moderate.

I am not an expert but my internet speed is supposed to be 200 download. I’m getting 70 or less. I bypassed the time capsule and plugged my computer directly into the modem. Speed was 236.

I therefore think it’s my time capsule. I did order a new cat6 cable off Amazon. Will be here tomorow and after that I’ll look into symbology. Can you possible link a suggested product. This way I’m not off in a wrong direction. Will this handle IOS and windows 10?

Instead of using the Time Capsule as your router, get a better router and use the capsule as just a backup destination.

The Synology website has a selector to help with choosing a suitable product for your needs. You can also search on eBay for "Synology Nas" to find a bunch of products. The model will be something like DS218 which is a DiskStation 2 bay 2018 model. Plenty for sale for less than $200.

iOS devices are usually backed up via iCloud. Can't help with Windows 10 as I don't use Windows anymore. I'm pretty sure you can easily back it up to the Synology.

Another alternative is to attach a backup drive to one of your computers and share it on the network. Then use it for your backups.

Yes, I replaced the HD in my Time Capsule with a 4TB HD, which was not cheap ($150) because I made a point of getting one that was rated for a high workload rate and NAS usage.
Although the time capsule is convenient, I have mixed feelings about it. Router technology has moved on, and backups are slow.
