Back up to mac vs icloud

I’m thinking of selling my MacBook which I back up my phone to for the past seven years. Is backing up to iCloud just as reliable and safe and convenient as backing it up to a MacBook? Pros vs cons?

I haven’t backed up to a computer since iCloud was invented. It’s as safe as any cloud based system.

I prefer iTunes as its more thorough and definitely a lot faster. I use iCloud as a fail-safe only.

I really only use my mb pro for iphoto storage. Contacts, apple music and apps Are alrdy stored in cloud...
