I have been lurking here for sometime now and I think I am ready to JB. One question I need answered is how do I first make a back up of my phone in case I need to restore it? I just sync'd my ipod 3g and saw it was making a back up when it was done sync'ing but where did it put this back up.

If I need to restore do I just restore and then install my back up?? Do I have to make a clean back up first of is this sync'd back up all I need?

Also, when I JB do I still keep all my app's I have purchased??

Well when you jailbreak, if you use quickpwn you don't have to restore your phone so the backup doesn't really matter right now. If you use pwnage tool you have to restore your phone with a custom firmware, and after the firmware is installed on the phone iTunes will ask you which backup you want to restore to your phone, and it will give you a list of previous back ups to choose from.

Also as long as your apps are under the applications section in itunes they should sync back to the phone after you restore it.

Thanks for the fast reply, but now I'm more confused - lol. You said when I use quickpwn I dont have to restore my phone so the back up doesn't matter - but if I quickpwn shouldn't I make a back up before I do that?

You also said as long as my app's are under the applications tab (they are) they will sync back to my phone after I restore it. But will they still be there after I JB? I think I just need to JB to understand the whole thing.

Where is my back up that was just made when I sync'd?
