Backdrop – Live Wallpapers for your Desktop & Lock Screen

Hey! I'm the indie developer behind Mac apps like Sensei and Trim Enabler (which, fun fact, started their development on these forums!). As a long-time Mac user and reader of this forum, I'm really excited to share my latest project today.

I love my Mac, and love customising my desktop experience to make it more productive, creative or just personal. But I've been frustrated that while Apple added wallpapers that animate on the Lock Screen, they never let us use our own. So, I decided to build the solution myself.

Today, I'm launching Backdrop 2.0, and the headline feature is the one I've been wanting for years: custom video wallpapers on the macOS Lock Screen.

It's the first app to make this possible, and I spent a huge amount of time on the performance and design of Backdrop of to make sure it's done right.

You can choose to play your video wallpapers on either the desktop, the lock screen, or even both!

I just happened to start looking for something like this today.

There is no demo? It looks great and all, but I want to have them rotate, for example, and and I can't find any information like that on the app page (so that means it's not there?) and there doesn't seem to be any support questions for the app at this point. And that's just an example, I'd like to poke around a bit to make sure it fits my wants.

Hey! There is a free trial – you can download Backdrop and use it for free, but you're limited to downloading or creating 3 wallpapers on the trial.

Hmm, I don't get any option to use it in a trial capacity. Only to buy or enter a license, or quit. Thanks anyway!

Oh, you can close the notice by pressing the X in the top left to keep using the app in Trial mode.
