What are the dimensions for a background image on the iPhone in an app? There is a few different options since there can be a bar at the bottom etc? What are they?

480x320 for portrait without a status bar
460x320 for portrait with a status bar
320x480 for landscape without a status bar
300x480 for landscape with a status bar

Is the status bar the bar at the bottom or the bar at the top?

The status bar is the bar that displays the time, signal strength, carrier, battery info, etc. Looking at some of your posts around here, looks like you should invest in a good book.

Figure out what it's called and I'll give you its dimensions, then from there you can subtract that from the screen size to get the remaining space.

So what is it called? If you don't know how to call the bar in code, then you are getting way ahead of yourself.
