Ever since jailbreaking, it seems like apps are not staying 'active' in the background (when I go to home screen or switch apps). Then when I go back to said apps they have to 'reload' all over again.

Before jailbreaking. I remember apps would stay 'active' longer periods of time then would just start back where left off when I went back to them.

I have cleared my memory with auxo, but still seems to happen more often. Apps I have seen this occur with: chrome, Facebook, alien blue, and others. Anyone have any input?

Can you give a full list of any tweaks that you have installed from Cydia?

Thanks.

Do I have too many tweaks/apps? Maybe they are taking up a lot of ram? Only thing is that the 'Memory Free' is always reading above 300mb... not sure why my apps are always reloading and not just picking up where I left off

Turns out it was winterboard... Had to uninstall it and performance is a lot better

Im having the exact same problem!! Im on a iphone 5 6.1. The only jailbreak tweaks i have right now is winterboard with a 1nfrared theme going. Also I have bytafont with a few fonts downloaded and sbsettings and colorkeyboard. Thats it! I did have springtimize 2 and auxo but i removed them because i thought it would help.

My apps keep getting kicked out of memory too when there us well above 250mb remaining. Do you think it is winterboard? I really like my theme but it sure is annoying having everything reload!l anybody know a fix for this? Should i restore and rejailbreak?

iPhone 5 with 6.1. I have same problem you have. Randomly my apps getting kicked out. I was not able to locate what causes this.

I wonder if this is a normal tradeoff that jailbroken iphones have to deal with? Or is this unusual? Shouldn't the phone work like it did before the jailbreak?

I guess it could be a bug among apps from cydia. Sometimes this kind of problem disappears after simple update.... I hope....... I will wait the "right" update.

I've located the cause. It was "Winter Board".
After I disabled (not uninstall) all themes and did REBOOT iPhone, I've confirmed the problem has gone. But I didn't want to give up my winter board.
So I reboot again, and apply the themes and respring iPhone.
It seems my iPhone is OK now. No more issue.

I've done a few reboots and disabling the themes and respringing too and its ok for a little while until the memory fills up a ways and then it just cant remember how to figure out which apps to keep or purge.

I had the same problem and I found it to be Auxo that was using so much memory that it would shut down apps that are backgrounded. I deleted it and now my phone runs perfectly again. Try Auxo before Winterboard. I guess the Auxo dev's are aware of the memory leak and are working on it.

Took winterboard off and its fine again! It really sucks though because thats one of the main reasons i jailbroke!!! Does guy ever update winterboard to fix these kinds of things?? I guess ill hold off on putting auxo back on too! Yay bytafont, bitesms and sbsettings only for me for now! :/ I guess its not really worth it to jailbreak when everything seems held together by duct tape!!

You don't need Software Update Killer.

I am 99% sure it was "winterboard".
I've removed one by one till the problem fixed.
After I removed winterboard, suddenly all issues has resolved.
So sad that I have to use it without winterboard, but no more crashing.

Why not?

The iPhone will work the same both before and after the jailbreak. Jailbreaking alone should not affect the performance of the phone (unless the method to jailbreak is buggy/glitchy)
The possible change in performance comes when tweaks and/or apps get installed from Cydia

I recently notice this happening about a week ago when I installed switchy and a few other minor tweaks (forgot!). Although, I'm pretty sure switchy wasn't the problem. Also I have had winterboard and themes (ayecon, sliders, lockscreen, springboard) since day 1 and never noticed apps getting killed. There was a handful or so of tweaks I installed from cydia around the time I started noticing apps getting killed so it's a bit hard to really narrow it down. I didn't really investigate it because I assumed my phone was just low on memory and backgrounded apps were getting killed. But this thread (and the other one) tells me it might have been something else. My imessage spazzed out earlier this week and I ended up restoring my phone to 6.1.2. I haven't noticed the problem since, but I wasn't really looking for it. I have been trying to reproduce the problem since seeing this thread but have been unsuccessful. I actually have 3 new things enabled in winterboard versus before. Possibly not the problem? Or maybe a conflict with winterboard and another app?

I did pass on some apps/tweaks this time around. Luckily I made a list with AppInfo so these are the ones I no longer have:

Barrel
Colorkeyboard
CallBar
Facebook Photo Library integration
Instagram Image saver
Safari Download Manager
SwipeNav
Switchy
Auxo
Unfold

It was probably Auxo because it had a memory leak which the dev says is now fixed.

Possibly. I had uninstalled auxo a while before that. I'm thinking it's some combo of apps leaking/consuming too much memory. Still haven't noticed any killed apps yet.

Well guys after foolishly thinking it was the ayecon theme turns out it is winterboard. #
I hope they fix this bug soon (if it is one) because Im gonna miss theming #. For now mask will have to do.

Winterboard update:

Avoid The Dreaded "vnode" Leak

Some users have been reporting that, recently, while using WinterBoard, it is hard to keep many iOS applications running in the background: after you run more than a few, they are killed.

This issue did not correlate with new versions of WinterBoard (downgrading did not help), but it did clear itself up if you uninstalled WinterBoard. It did not require any themes to be active.

I have managed to track this down to leaking a key resource, something called a "vnode", of which Apple, by default, only allocates 1250; this bug is a complex multi-component overlap.

In this case, when using iOS 6.1 (maybe also 6.0, but maybe not), with a 0.9.400x version of Substrate, and virtually any version of WinterBoard, you will probably encounter this issue.

After spending a couple days looking into this reported issue with some custom vnode debugging tools I wrote (which required getting some help from planetbeing, due to kASLR), I have determined WinterBoard is the correct place to fix this issue, and have done so there in 0.9.3911.
