backing up 3.1.2 through cydia

Can someone tell me exactly how to back up my 3.1.2 software with cydia for a windows computer. I read saurik's site and still have no idea what to do. A quick step by step would be much appreciated

You can't do it thru cydia. You need pkgbackup to backup all your jb apps.

im not trying to backup my jailbreak apps. I want to back up the OS incase I need to restore. I just can't figure out how to do it.

When you launch Cydia, have you ever clicked on the make my life easier link? If not, it is too late because Apple stopped signing that firmware when 3.1.3 was released. If you did this, it will say at the top in green.
"This device has a 3.1.2 ECID SHSH on file. "

Cydia can't back up your OS. Are you talking about caching your ECID SHSH? If so, it is too late to do that for OS 3.1.2, since Apple is no longer signing that version of the OS. If you haven't chose "Make My Life Easier" then you are out of luck for this round.
