Hello guys, I need your help. I've been using the search function to find what programs I need and I have a few questions.

I have a dual layer burner and I can get the DL dvds. I know I extract the dvd using MacTheRipper and burn it with Toast. Are there any steps I need to take between those two? Someone mentioned compression or something. Thanks.

you shouldn't need any compression software if you have a DL drive. If the disc image you create using Mactheripper is larger than your blank DVD you can use a program like DVD2one or Popcorn to compress the image, then burn it

Simple Solution

If you don't have dual layer media, you need to compress. If the DVD you are trying to copy is larger than 4.2 gigs, you need to rip, compress and burn.

You need DVD2oneX to compress.

Why larger than 4.2? The packaging on my DVD-R says that it holds up to 4.7

yeah, 4.7GB max, but when using dvd2onex, i always specify 4444mb, just to make sure.

if you have toast 7, you can bypass dvd2onex and use toast's compress function. but like the previous posts said, if you're using DL discs, you don't need to compress.

Should I worry about the constant writing and erasing of the raw file to my HD before I burn to dvd?

4.2GB is the formatted capacity of the disc.
