Backing up. iCloud or local computer?

In true Apple fashion, they are being coy on the details of what is and isn't backed up...but we need to know this info, Apple...
My iCloud backup appears to be saving but does not show date or time says Unknown. I don't understand why.
I've switched to iCloud backup. Now whenever I plug my iPhone into my computer (or wireless sync 
) to sync new music, it takes much less time.

This is a similar problem I have with a local backup. The date shown is from when I updated to iOS 5. The date hasn't changed since. Is it backing up or not???
I tried restoring from iCloud and it took almost an hour even on a 100MB connection! I think it's smarter to at least leave a backup on a local computer.
Going to continue doing a full backup to itunes with cable or over wifi. Also just testing this icloud backup, just doing a partial backup so I unticked some apps & camera roll for now. Any word on if the icloud backups are encrypted? With itunes there is an option to encrypt the backup.
I think the idea of icloud backup is apple want to start seeing people in the near future restoring their backups on newly purchased products in the store so its all set up and ready to use as soon as you buy it.

Doing both as well for the same reason as everyone else.
Some tips, if you are at your Mac and your iPhone or iPad is not within reach yet on wifi and not plugged in....
They show up in iTunes as being connected and ready to sync. You can sync and backup to your Mac, then switch it to back up to iCloud and sync again. It's the fastest and most simple way if you are doing both backups.
Doesn't require you to go into your iOS settings and turn on/off your iCloud backup setting. From iTunes over wifi it does that for you.

You can? How? In iTunes, they are radio buttons, not checkboxes. Right now, I am backing up to my computer. How do you select both?

My families iphones would never have been synced to a computer or updated if it wasn't for me. Now that I set up icloud backup for them, neither of us have to worry about it. Plus when they get new phones & turn them on you can restore from the backup in icloud without the need for a computer.
iCloud backups will not do a "complete backup" right??? Meaning: I have a 32GB iPhone4 with about 10GB free (iOS, pics, vids, music etc....) iCloud will back up 20+ GB's worth of info from my iPhone to the "cloud"?? When I "restore" to a new iPhone from iCloud, it will restore everything??? I don't think so . . right??

OK, let me put it another way: if one has a computer, and if one recharges one's phone every night by plugging it into said computer, why would one want to back up to iCloud? I can understand that iCloud is designed primarily for iPad or iPhone users who do not have a computer, but if one has a computer, why back up to iCloud at all?
