Backlight Bleed -- Fixed or not?

Some of you may have seen my recent posts on here about my loud HDD and my HDD fan going crazy after the HDD replacement.

Anyway, now that I've slowly fixed those two issues, I ended up with a new Hitachi HDD and a new Logic Board. So it's running like it's suppose to be, finally.

So, my original machine also had this ugly backlight bleed issue. That's one of the reasons why I asked for a replacement, and my 'new' replacement has the same damn issue. It's really annoying. I watch a lot of movies and edit pictures. And it would be nice if the screen functioned like it's suppose to.

I went to the Apple store to check out these iMacs and see if others had the same problem, but due to the actual lighting in there, I wasn't really able to get a good look, but to me it looked like the one I was able to get on didn't have his issue.

So now I don't know what to do, ask for a new screen or wait it out? But I'm not sure how much longer I can wait since it's getting worse and worse every week, if not everyday.

So here's my question: Those of you who bought this machine, or received a replacement this year, does your machine have this issue?

This issue still exists and will never be fixed as the bleed is due to Apple's choice not to use a polarizer on the screen.

That's VERY typical for IPS. The viewing angles are very good during the day and NOT on blacks, but blacks wash out very quickly from off angles. You'll notice that as you move yourself around the screen, the blacks will look excellent directly in front of you, but poor off to the sides.

You'll have to deal with it, or return it and be done. This was typical on my 23" Apple Cinema Display and my 24" LED Cinema Display, and on my 27" iMac. All IPS panels.

I know what you mean. I have a IPS Panasonic TV. I definitely notice it, and know what it's like. However, my TV has way better blacks (when looking straight at it) than the iMac. On the iMac, even when I do look directly at it, there seem to be some white spots that are just there no matter what angle I look at. There seems to be some kind of white like that goes all around the screen and you can definitely see it on solid colors. However, when I'm literally face to face with the 'white' spot, it fades away.

Wow I think I'd much rather have no IPS than a crappy screen like this.

Too late to return. Oh how I wish I had gotten a MBP instead.

there are ways to get out the backlight bleeding , just google for backlight bleeding , but it does not work on all scrrens ,as it depends what is causing the bleeding as it can also be caused by heat

there are a lot more , so its a very common problem of lcd monitors /screens nearly all do bleed some only a tiny bit on the edges others more and getting a replacement doesn't necessary fix the problem in fact you could get a even worth one if you are unlucky

Back-light bleed through is caused by an improper seal between the edge of the LCD screen and the Frame. Back-light bleed through is usually along the edge of the screen, not in the middle of the screen.

Well since I'm sick and don't have anything to do today, I decided to just call Apple and see what they have to say.

I talked to 2 guys, one of them was the regular representative, and then he transferred me over to some other guy. They both agreed that it's pretty weird for a screen to do that, and tried to schedule a repair. Sadly, last time I got my computer fixed at Apple, they left a few dents and scratches on there, which I obviously wasn't happy about, so I asked for a in-home diagnosis, which I guess isn't possible to do.

So, my only options are, take it to the Apple store so they could confirm a hardware failure, and then send out a in-home repair team, or live with it.

I think I'll give them a call later on this month.

My week 17 i7 does it, I have a samsung tv that does the same thing. Makes me think they will always have this problem.
