Hey folks.. I picked up a new 2.2 Ghz 15" C2D MacBook Pro yesterday evening.

I didn't notice this last night, but today I've noticed what I believe is called backlight bleeding.

That is, on the top and bottom of the display, what should be black is noticeably lighter than it is, say in the middle of the screen.

It's also somewhat noticeable on the left side of the screen.

Is this eligible for a return to the Apple Store where I purchased it?

If you go to the store and politely demand a replacement, I'm sure they'll comply. People here are reporting that they're replacing for dead pixels. Backlight bleed is much worse IMO. I replaced my Dell as soon as I got it for the same reason (second was OK). Go for it.

Since I don't really feel like having to reinstall quite a bit of software (and also Vista), is it possible to clone both my Mac partition and the Windows one?

So I can just completely copy them over to the replacement?

I have SuperDuper... I think I remember hearing it can do that.

Just wasn't sure about it being able to backup the Windows part as well.

I'm switching to mac. In fact, my mbp is on the vehicle for deliver right now. I'm wondering what blacklight bleeding is. can someone post up a picture of a mbp that has blacklight bleeding problem? Is there any other problem should I check for when I mbp arrive? thanks

Chris,

I had the exact same problem, but along the bottom of the screen in the middle. My GF's new MBP which arrived at the same time was fine.

I called up AppleCare and he went through a few things with me and then directed me to a Product Specialist who said that because it was a problem right out of the box they wanted to do a 'capture' to get the unit back and look at it, and would send me a new one.

I'm all packed up and waiting for the shipping labels which will hopefully arrive today.

Do the same as me, and call up AppleCare. Stay positive and insist that it was like this out of the box and they will, themselves, suggest a replacement.

EDIT: Oops just noticed that you bought it in store. Take it back and show them and they will certainly swap it for you!

what to look for when your SR MBP lands on the door mat...

When mine turns up I'll be keeping an eye out (!) for panics from the Airport driver:
