Hi everyone!
This is just my first post, and i want to say that you are great..this forum has been is just illuminant for me! :)

I have a little, and maybe stupid, question for you..

How many possibility have i got to find the backlited keyboard in the new MacBook upgrade? ...the one that everyone is waiting for i mean..:)

Thank you all guys

Welcome to MacRumors. I think the chances of a backlit keyboard in the next MacBook are slim since that's seen as one of the discerning features of the Pro line up and has been during the PowerBooks' reign. I could be wrong, but I doubt it'll happen.

Not likely I'm afraid, the backlit keyboard has been one of the major features Apple uses to separate the MacBook and the MacBook Pro.

Thanks guys, i was afraid that the answer would be this one..

My problem is that i like the MBP features but i'd like a smaller notebook..i now i should wait for a 13" or 14" MBP, but i think it will takes too long..
...so i'm pretty sure i'm gonna buy a 15"..

Thanks again, for the speed of answer too :D

Im going to agree with the others here. No chance.

Its a nice feature, and its a shame its limited to the pro machine, but, thats marketing for you.

At least the MBP actually looks like its worth it over the MB now. Before there was too many similarities.

Yeah, it's been a while since they had such a separation of features and abilities. Probably not since the PB was a G4 and the iBook was a G3. iBook/MacBook Pro doesn't count.

Welcome to MR.

I think the chances are very close to zero, sorry.

^ unless you type in the dark, thrn your missing alot!!!!!!

Yes, but that's only because of the colour of the MBP keyboard in the first place, which is much more difficult to make out in marginal light. If it wasn't backlit the legends would be invisible in marginal light, be they printed in black or white.

A more conventionally coloured keyboard (including the Macbooks) would be fairly well lit by the LCD screen. To me it's something which is not a feature, but a fix for something that seems very typical in Apple circles - design decisions in favour of the way things look, as opposed to how well they work.

I dunno, people seem to like it but I'm an engineer - designer with the emphasis on the former. I would like stuff that looks and works great, but given a compromise in both aspects I'd rather pick something that works great than looks great.

it 11:45 pm here, so there is no light apart the light coming out of my MacBook's display, and i can only just read the keys. The ones on the 3 rows closest to me are almost illegible. Using the backlit keyboard, they are all visible.

The backlight does make a difference, but its a luxury feature, as are large screens and dedicated GPUs. Backlit keyboards aren't going to happen soon.

You have a defective display in that case. Better get it Applecared.

its bright, but i have it on an angle, so the light isnt going on all the keys. I can read the keys, but they are pretty dark. I can't read the Shift buttons, and i can just make out the Enter button. So your argument of the keys being "fairly well lit" holds up, but it's not an ideal situation. If i were typing something long, i would much prefer backlit keys.

if you have a macbook and a mabcook pro in the dark, MB with display on full, MBP with backlit keys, the MBP will definitely be easier to read.

I don't find the backlit feature any useful at all. typing in the dark is just going to screw up your eyes. and having the blue back light won't help much either (it's actually quite annoying in the dark). it's only there for the cool factor.

but to each his own.
