Backpack for MBP and Books

Who would've thought that more difficult than finding the perfect computer is finding the perfect backpack? I've looked through threads and am having a hard time figuring out the perfect backpack for my needs. Basically, I'm a student. I have the 15.4" MBP, and am looking for a backpack that most importantly offers good protection (so many backpacks I'm seeing don't really seem to protect the computer) and also has ample room for books and a couple accessories (the power cord, a mouse). Also, I'm looking to budget at around $100 maximum. Please let me know if there are any backpacks that you would recommend. I've tried a few local stores and can't quite find what I'm looking for.

I'm in the same boat. I went to an Apple store and looked at the Swiss MAXXUS (I think) backpack, and it looks pretty cool. It seems as thought it would protect the computer pretty well along with being able to carry books. Does anyone know any more about this?
 
STM (StandardTM) make nice backpacks, I think. I'd look to them first if you really don't want to buy a Crumpler. You're really paying for the fashionability of owning a Crumpler when you buy one (even though I don't think they're that nice looking), even if I did just buy myself one a Sinking Barge to carry my DSLR Camera, laptop, and general purpose stuff simultaneously.
 
I'm a big fan of the Timbuk2 bags and they make a couple laptop packs. I have their laptop messenger bag and I love it. They're really well made, do a great job of protecting the notebook, and have add-on accessories that let you customize the bag to fit your needs better.

i don't know if it's available near you, but i have a lowepro backpack. it's a bit big for me, cos i only haven an ibook and the specs are for a 15" laptop - but i love it still, i got the one where they combined a camera bag and laptops cos i also have an SLR. now i don't have to deal with too many bags. it's well padded too for that must-have protection. i'm in dubai and i bought if for less than a $100, prices are usually cheaper in the States.

I found a website that advertises the STM Sports 2 Backpack for $60. It looks like a lot of bang for the buck. Do you know how good the protection will be for my 15.4" MBP and also if it'll leave room for a couple books. Obviously I don't plan to throw it out the window, and I won't be carrying all of my books all of the time, but for standard use?

Alrighty, I ordered the STM Sports 2 Backpack; it looks like it would offer decent protection, has some space, and doesn't scream LAPTOP like some of the bags on the market. It's supposed to come in about a week, so as soon as I get it, I'll let you guys know what I think. In the meantime, has anyone else used this backpack?

Get a sleeve for the MBP and your favorite regular backpack. The sleeve protects the MBP and you can get any backpack you want.
