Hi. I just joined MacRumors and did a couple of searches but didn't find anything ... ixodes suggested that I post to this forum. I am a freelance writer and I just got a mini to use for a project. I want a nice padded backpack or bag for the mini, power supply, probably an iPad and all that other "writer's junk" that I like to carry around. The mini bags that I've found so far look too small for extra hardware and so I'm wondering about a backpack. Thanks for any suggestions or links !!! :)

I don't know of any specifically.

BUT

My suggestion is to look for backpacks made specifically for Photographers.

They usually have compartments for large DSLR's, extra lenses, and cables and stuff.

I have seen them at camera shops, and they would be perfect for what you want.

The new mini is super for travelling, I've done it myself (also in combination with an iPad). It's the ideal combo, the iPad's super battery life is great on a train or plane, and the mini is the lightest possible Mac available (even beating the 11" Air if you include its power supply, and far more powerful than one). It's great if you have a keyboard, mouse and monitor at your destination.

You know the mini has an integrated PSU now right? Well to be more precise the 2010/2011 models do, or do you still have an older one?

I usually put my mini in a soft sleeve meant for a 10" netbook, the one I have is a perfect fit although it's a bit too long (as the netbooks are more rectangular), I get around this by tucking the loose end into the opening.

I then bring it in a standard APC laptop backpack, I put the iPad in the padded laptop compartment and the mini in the back compartment which is smaller and fits snugly. I point the tucked-in part down so it has more padding in case I put the backpack down on a hard surface (it also helps that I have 2 SSDs in my mini so no moving parts except the fan).

So yeah good luck and maybe report back what you ended up doing, I might get some ideas from it :)

As you mentioned, you need something which can carry your mini and ipad. I would suggest to go for backpack. My brother is also using backpack to carry his laptop and other stuff. He purchased laptop backpack couple of months back which carry 16 inch laptop easily, four compartment to fit other electronics stuff well and interiors are well padded which avoids damage or scratch.

Have a search for the Dell XPS M1730 backpack.
I reviewed one in my videos (link in sig) - a great backpack with lots of padding and protection. I sold the one I reviewed in the end, but regret it now!
