Backslash thru a circle symbol when booting

Hey there!

I decided I would be risky today and attempt to install Tiger on my cousin's clamshell iBook using XPostFacto with no FireWire just to see if it would work.

Well, when the computer rebooted I got a gray screen with a circle that had a backslash thru it.

I thought, no big deal, I'll take out the CD and it will reboot into OS 9. Nope. Same screen. Then I thought, no big deal, I will reboot using a Panther CD since Panther can install on this. Nope, same screen. Same with a Panther CD. Same with a 10.1 CD. Same with a 10.0.3 CD.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to boot into OS 9 so that I could install Panther? Thanks!

Duff-Man says...try the easy things first - zap the pram (command+option+p+r while booting)....or try booting from an OS 9 cd (if you have one)....oh yeah!

Well, it appears to have worked, even if I did zap it three times because I kept holding the keys down!

I seem to be stuck in an older Mac world with old iBooks, and old iMacs. It really sucks.

Little bump here, just in case. What does this symbol mean? Maybe that way I can figure out why the installation wasn't working and what settings I may need to change in XPostFacto.

Oh, and the reason my Panther CD wouldn't work is that it is really scratched.
