Backup but no update!!

I keep trying to update my iphone and every time I click "Update" it goes through the lengthy process of backing up my phone....but when it is done with back up, it doesn't install the ios5 update. This happens every time I click "Update"
(and yes the message still says- A newer version of the iphone software is available....)

Any tips or advice? I've been trying to do this for almost 2 hours!

Back up and restore. Should work.

Try turning off your phone after the next update has failed and the sync has finished. Power on, connect, and click update.

OK giving it a try...restarted both the iphone and computer to see if that helps. Thanks!
