Backup data for Contacts, etc?

What is the best way to create an "outside the cloud" backup of your MM contacts data (PC users)? Would syncing to Outlook then exporting the address book to a file be the way to go? After spending a whole day entering data I'm a bit nervous about all that info floating in apple's cloud

Of course syncing with Outlook would be best to create a back-up on a PC.

Thanks for the reply. I've yet to sync with outlook since I wanted to "start clean" and my outlook address book is a total mess. Should I clear out my address book in outlook before connecting it to MM to prevent any polluting? If MM finds an empty address book in outlook it simply populates it with exisint MM contacts, correct? What would happen if there is existing data in both places when they first connect? Does it combine all the data from both sources?

Also, any difference how MM works with Outlook vs Outlooks Express (aka windows vista mail)? I have both running on different machines.

In your Control Panel see MobileMe Preferences. Then Sync Tab, then Advanced. Select "Reset Sync Data" and chose to "Replace Data on this computer with Data on MobileMe". Make sure you data is backed up.

Thanks for all the replies. About the control panel and Vista Mail (Outlook Express)...is there a setting to only allow unidirectional syncing with MobileMe data? In other words, I'd only want MM contacts data to be downloaded to Vista Mail...but never the other way around. Also, I'd ONLY want contacts data shared...not email or calendar. Is this possible?
