I have a 256 gb apple ssd used as backup disk for a MacBook Air .
Suddenly the disk stopped working and cannot be seen or read anymore.
Anyone can advise me?

Apple never sold external SSDs.
Is this a drive taken from a laptop, now in an external enclosure?

It could be the enclosure.
It could be the cable.
It could be the drive itself.
Or... it could be "a combination of factors".

If it's just a backup -- and if the "source data" on the backup exists elsewhere -- you haven't really lost anything.

In my experience, sometimes SSD's just "go dark" on you -- disappear, never to be revived again.

Right, this is a leftover from a damaged Mac

Well, took almost a year to reply to my post.

I'd try reformatting the drive using disk utility.
If disk utility can't even "see it" to reformat -- then, I'd toss it out. If the data on it is sensitive, use a hammer first...

It had to be the hammer!
