how exactly does the iphone backup work? meaning, if my phone were to crash and i needed to load a backup of it that itunes made, where do i go to find the backup and how do i load it?

backups everything (including texts currently on your phone). you can access your list of backups by going to itunes -> preferences -> syncing

now i just need to figure out how to stop where it backups every time i plug it in. it gets old waiting for it.

Add me to the list of those curious about where those backup's reside. As a matter of fact, I have yet to upgrade my v1 iPhone to 2.0 because I have a string of text messages that I want to keep. If I could find the text messages in a backup file, I'd be a happy camper and make the leap of faith.
