Backup hard drive-no backup disc

Bought my mom an older imac. Has some cool software and OSX 10.3.9. No back up disc for operating system or software. I want to make a backup disc(s) for everything. Have a iomega cd-rw 52x32x52 usb. May be getting a firewire. Also she does not care for the software and I want to put on a Mac mini I will be getting. If anyone can help.

I would use Carbon Clone Copyer i got it recomended to me a while ago and I made a clone of the disk on my ibook to use on an imac that wasn't working
but I am not sure of the website, so search versiontracker.com or something for a download link

I'm a little confused. What exactly do you want to do?

Are you asking for External HDD recommendations, software, how to's...?

If you get an INTEL MINI then you wont be able to CLONE From the PPC iMac to an INTEL mini. If you get an older G4 Mini you can do this:

Carbon Copy Cloner is some software that will Clone one computer to another thats Plugged into it...
You would install Carbon Copy on the Imac, then when you get the Mini, plug it into the imac with a Firewire cable and start the MINI in Target Disk Mode. (Hold down T @ startup)
It will show up on the Imac just like an External Drive would... you then run Carbon Copy and it will Duplicate itself to the G4 Mini.
This will erase everything on the Mini tho so be aware of that.

Otherwise just a Plain External HD backup might do the trick... You might not be able to run the Software on another computer but you can try.

Do you have Toast? It'll let you make backups of the disks with one click. Failing that, you can create images of the disks using Disk Utility, then record them onto blanks.
