need to ask this for a friend (as i've never used time machine)...

she has a new imac, and wants to back it up to the same drive that she backed her previous macbook to...so the backups.backup folder is still there (she wants to keep those files).

will the new mac wipe the drive? or start a new backup? or??

thanx in advance :D

The old backups will not be erased.

thanx. and will the new mac create it's own folder, or continue in the original backup folder?

Time Machine backups by computer name. If the old machine and the new machine have different computer names then Time Machine will start a new full backup. So under the main backups folder there will be a folder that is the computer name containing all the backups for that computer.
