I'm about to (dare I say it) jailbreak my phone and I'm wondering whats the deal with backups? It appears to just give me the choice of the last one? Can I move it and keep it safe somewhere?

Basically whenever you sync, iTunes deletes the last backup and replaces it with the one it's currently doing.

OK, so can I keep the current non-jailbroken one before it overwrites with the new JB one? Or would that not work?

I don't get the question that much, but as far as I'm concerned, if you jailbreak the phone and iTunes takes a backup of the new jailbreak, it won't restore (if you want to do just that) to a jailbroken iPhone.

The backup includes:
SMS messages
Email information
Contact information
Pictures from Camera Roll
All settings in the "Settings" app.

That's it. (Unless I missed some)

So basically if decide a jailbroken iPhone isn't for you... you don't have to worry about not being able to go to an iPhone that's, err, in jail.

Arh, I think I get it now. If I restore - it will put say the normal 2.2 and the SMSs, settings etc you listed?

So basically, if you want to restore to get rid of the jailbreaking then the only thing that will be different (once you've synced) is the jailbreaking apps, etc will be gone but nothing else (apps from appstore, etc) will be different?

Say I buy an app from the appstore while the phone is jailbroken. I'd assume it would still be there once I do a restore (assuming I've backed it up since buying the app).

Even tho it take 3 minutes to backup and sync my iPhone, I still don't have a decent current back up?
What am I doing wrong? Or what setting do I have wrong?

I'm having that problem as well. Currently every JB backup is a dud (no date on backup).

Right now I've deleted the dud backup and am doing a new one to see if that works. The last good backup I have is from August unfortunately.

[EDIT]After a Full new backup (took 20 minutes) it still shows up as a dud. Now I'm really considering restoring my phone to get rid of the jailbreak to see if that fixes my problem.
