I have backed up my Powerbook for the first time to an external Hard Drive (LACIE Big Disk Extreme 500MB) today in preparation for upgrading the OS to Tiger, however, I have a few questions that I hope someone will be able to answer. Here goes:
1. I'm using SuperDuper to backup and I selected the "Backup - all files" option (not sure if its the right one - can anyone explain the different options in Super Duper?).
2. I've divided the drive into 3 partitions. Can you alter the size of partitions, once they have been set up?
3. The drive is listed as 500MB, but when I mount it, it only shows as 467.5MB. Where is the missing 32.5MB?
4. The 80GB HD on my powerbook took 1 hr 53 minutes to backup, using firewire 800 (is this about the right amount of time it takes to do a backup?)
5. When I "get info" on the backup partition on the external Lacie drive, it shows a different amount of GB available and used, compared to the internal HD (only about 1GB) - is this right and how can I check that it has backed up absolutely everything before I erase the internal and do a full installation of Tiger?
6. After the backup finished, the drive continued to spin for over 1 hour and when I tried to unmount / eject it, it refused, saying that it was still in use - "try quitting applications and try again". I did - it didn't stop spinning, so I shut down the computer. Will this cause problems?
7. Once I erase and install Tiger, how do I move everything back onto the PB? - Is it a case of simply copying the backup partition back onto the internal HD?. Will all my applications need reinstalling (given the option I chose from SuperDuper?) and will everything be as I left it - i.e. all email messages listed in sequence, User profiles restored as they were etc?
That's everything for now!
Thanks for any help you can give me.
