I have an unjailbroken ipod touch now. Tomorrow I'm getting the iphone 3gs and I hear I can use the ipod backup that itunes create on my new iphone so I wont lose all my game saves and app settings and such. Is this correct?

Also, are there any way I can keep this backup and make sure it's not overwritten in the future? The thing is, I might jailbreak my iPhone and I want to be able to go back to this backup.

Another thing that bothers me is that if I jailbreak now, then when a the next update comes out I will have to restore my iphone and jailbreak it again.. And then I guess I wont be able to use the backup image since it's a new firmware version. So how can I transfer my saves and settings and all that? I wish iTunes would just sync the data and embed it into the app file that's stored in your iTunes..

The backup is located here:

On Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

On Windows Vista:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup

On Mac:
/Users/USERNAME/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

So, all you have to do is copy those files to a safe place and you can get the backup back. Also, you should just copy the iTunes folder to a safe place also. It might be safer to so that than relying on the software you posted.
