Backup Software in lieu of TM

I'm pretty much done with TimeMachine and I've been all through the forum finding recommendations for Carbon Copy as a backup tool but I'm wondering if anyone is using anything else that specializes in a full/incremental backups.

I used CC as a tool to clone disks in the past and wasn't real satisfied but also haven't used it for regular incremental backups. I'm already using ShirtPocket for backup imaging and don't really want to use something else for that function.

Intego made a product called "Personal Backup" which was sluggish and clumsy (probably why you can't buy it anymore).

Your feedback, even if its a link to another thread in the forum, would be very much appreciated.

You say you're done with Time Machine and CCC but you don't give specific reasons. By your own admission, you haven't used CCC to its full capability. So what exactly is it about these apps that fails to meet your needs?

I wasn't looking to provide rationale but here it is…

TimeMachine:

• I don't want to back up everything, only the files I choose.
• I want to do it on my schedule.
• I want to choose which files Spotlight searches or doesn't search. If I'm looking for a particular file, I don't want Spotlight to show me various iterations from TimeMachine backups.
• I use a specific document management process that doesn't really care how its backed up.
• I can keep going but I'll stop here.

Carbon Copy - as I stated, I'm not well versed, I just want options. If people say this is the best-ever incremental backup solution for Mac, I'll give it a try.

Again, no to TM but a maybe to CC and what are my options to CC?

Both TM and CCC can accommodate those requirements. It sounds like you just need to learn how to use their features to accomplish your goals. With either TM or CCC, you can select what gets backed up, and what doesn't. You can also backup on a schedule that you decide.

As far as what Spotlight indexes, you can control that in System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy. That has nothing to do with which backup app you use.

You might take a look at SuperDuper.

I have be relying on Carbon Copy Cloner for so long and the incremental updates have been great. It really came in handy when replacing my startup drive that died.

Give CCC a try.
It's GREAT for incremental backups. Quick and easy.
You can also select which files/folder you want/don't want to be backed up.

There really isn't much more to say...

ChronoSync is what I use for regular backups. Then again I use TimeMachine for real-time backups.

Time Machine by default does backups once an hour, not what one would call "real time".
Have you made some alterations to get real time?

No, I've made no changes. Once an hour is good enough for me. It is possible to change the backup interval but it seems the smallest increment is 1 hr.

It might be possible to make the interval shorter than an hour but that would require playing with the command line and I've seen talk about Mavericks issues for the sudo command. Google may be the best bet for finding the information.
