Hi guys,

Everything was fine until I ran the OS update from 14.2 -> 14.3 which failed on me.

Sapphire RX580
Flashed 4,1 Mac 2009
Running mojave 10.14.2

I'm unsure what's causing no video. (I know Sapphire 580 will not have certain screens - but which I'm unsure of). Here's my issue

I ran the 14.2->14.3 update and rebooted
While the screen was black screen during the update then I lost power.
The power came back, still a black screen so I plugged in a GT120 and REMOVED Rx580.

GT120 took me to the recovery options so I restored from time machine. Time machine restore was done, system rebooted. Black screen again, so I powered down the mac. Put Rx580 back in and removed GT120.

Powered Mac back on, still a black screen for 20 minutes, so I took out the RX580 and have the GT120 in. Boot again, still no display

Any suggestions? I think my next steps are to reset pram and smc?

Thanks

Do a clean install of 10.13.6 and test your hardware, at least you have a corrupted drive. 10.13.6 works with GT120 or RX 580 and it's your best bet to test.

Anyone else having problems going from 10.14.2>10.14.3? I also have a 4,1 with an RX580 and was about to do the upgrade.

I upgraded to 10.14.3 and haven't had any issues. I did have to use the delta updater because the combo updater is broken.

MP 4,1 -> 5,1 with HD7950 Mac Edition.

No problem during / after the upgrade at all.

Thanks for the responses. Well, I attempted the update and was unsuccessful. My first attempt was the Combo update from Apple. Then I tried to update through System Preferences. That also failed. Both attempts yielded the same results. So I'm still on 10.14.2.

Suggestions?

Oh - BTW... FaceTime and Messages have stopped working as of this afternoon. This morning, everything was fine.

tsialex was correct about my issue. Corrupted drive, I did a reinstall from time machine 2nd try. That worked.
Thank you Alex for the help. Your info was helpful.

fatespawn. I did my update to 10.14.3 successfully after the first attempt (that failed probably due to power failure.)
I did the update using the Apple Software Update option.I never saw the message you're reporting...

Still have a Metal GPU installed?
System OS drive APFS format?
Authentic 5,1 or hacked?

You download the combo updater after 25th Jan?

Yes, just yesterday. I actually used the combo update I downloaded to upgrade my wife's iMac first. Then I tried on my Mac Pro with the aforementioned error.

If you've never replaced the battery on the board, would suggest you do so. The OEM last 5-7 years max. Most machines are beyond that. It's fixed a few of these random need to reset PRAM issues lately.
