Hi All Rumors

Im testing Mac pro 12 core late 2013 with Ableton live and Steinberg Nuendo 11 and discovered

very bad CPU cores usage ?

What can be the reason of that?

Mac pro 12 core 2.7ghz late 2013 Catalina 10.15.7 64 gb ECC ram 1866 MHz

Hi,

I dont see anything bad in the screenshot.
The CPU is 12 core (and 24 threads) and using all 12 cores at a moderate level.
As soon as these 12 cores are running at high usage , all 24 threads will be used and shown in the Activity Monitor.

Thank You KeesMacPro for fast react!
Yes but Ableton Stops Playback before that happened Nuendo too..
I tested with all Buffer settings 256,512,1024,2048 cant use all 24 threads at all ?
The problem may be that SSD was pulled from 4 Core Mac pro 3.7 without OS X reinstalation?

Your welcome!

Apparently CPU usage with 24 threads is not necessary , CPU load is not very high (and thus hyperthreading doesnt kick in).
So if Ableton stops playback, the problem is not CPU usage.
I dont use Ableton, but I suspect that the audio interface and/or the driver is causing this.
On my MP5,1 dual X5690 running Logic Pro I can playback like 100 tracks with plugins etc without any problems.....

I would reinstall/update the audio interface driver and check if the audio settings in Ableton are compatible with the interface.
In my experience , if you have to tweak with buffer sizes to get playback smooth , the interface is too old/ too slow or the connection is too slow.

What kind of error are you getting? Is it CPU related?
I work with ProTools and although error messages can sometimes be misguiding or fail to address the real cause of a problem, the CPU and memory related errors are quite reliable.

No specific errors in Ableton Live and Nuendo just playback is crackling ( like lost clock ) or Stops and CPU shows RED
100% in DAW but in OS X is under 50%.

Read/Write speeds of the drive you use for Ableton/Nuendo could be too slow.
What kind of drive and connection are you using for your audio data?

Disk throughput is important for audio. You should check that first. Also, I have noticed that it's easy to overwhelm the native audio processor while the system is fine. If you have an external audio interface, make sure you are leveraging it properly. The different is night and day.
