So my sister-in-law is looking into buying a 12" PB, and we saw that there is a $150 rebate on Amazon. When I compared the specs to the current 12"PB's for sale at Apple.com, it seems the only difference was a 60GB hard drive instead of 80GB. I guess it doesn't have the newest version of iLife either. Is there any other difference in spec that I have missed? More importantly, can anyone tell me if the PowerBook always came with the QuickBooks software?

Thanks!

You're right. And it is the SuperDrive 12" that she's interested in.

So now there's NO difference that I can see btwn the amazon.com and current apple.com powerbooks. Wow, could it be that Amazon is selling the latest model but for $150 less?

Lots of people around here buy theirs on Amazon. If you're happy with a stock model, buying from Amazon when they're having rebates is a great idea.

And it doesn't matter if you can get AppleCare through Amazon. You can buy it anyplace that has it and sign up any computer (of the appropriate model, of course) using it.

It's cheaper to buy from Amazon B/c you usually don't have to pay a sales tax.
Unless you live in Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington...

Oh, and you're supposed to pay tax on your own if you live in any other state...

How would a buyer pay the sales tax to the total price of the order if Amazon does not ask for it?

EDIT: This is fom Amazons Website:
Effect of the Internet Tax Freedom Act

"Companies selling over the Internet are subject to the same sales tax collection requirements as any other retailers. Remote sellers (including Internet retailers and catalog companies) are generally required to collect taxes where they have a physical selling presence. If they do not have any such presence, they are not required to collect sales taxes."

You're supposed to submit it to your state tax board when you file your income taxes. There used to be special forms for it, but many states are now putting a line right on the main form where you're supposed to list your out-of-state purchases and pay tax on them. Not that many people actually do that...

It is true that Amazon does not have to collect the tax, but you're still supposed to pay it.

I did not know this.
