Hey everyone. I wanted to check around and see if I have a case of really bad luck or if others are having this issue.

Like many I received my iPad on Saturday. As much as I love the device, I ran into an issue immediately upon powering it on. I had 3 dead pixels on the unit.

I called Apple on Sunday and they were more than helpful. They set me up with an appt at the Genius Bar today and even offered to send me a free accessory for my troubles.

Tonight when I got to my appt, they switched me out with a new model. I really contemplated unboxing it in the store or in the car to test as the store is pretty far away from me, but didn't as the genius assured me that this was the only iPad he heard of with this issue.

So I guess, shame on me for not doing so. I just got home and turned the unit on, backed it up, and sure enough I have dead pixels again. I cleaned the screen like last time and viewed the display using solid colored backgrounds in photos. 4 dead pixels around the whole device. Called Apple back, maintained calm and explained the issue... and they didn't even have a record of my last call from Sunday. Luckily I at least had the email from the last tech I talked to and sent them that info.

So, long read later, has anyone else had any issues with dead pixels?? What avenue should I explore from here? I am currently on hold waiting to speak to a senior apple advisor. I was trying to avoid the delay of sending it back and I really don't want to drive back down to an Apple store again.

It's not a rare event, but you can bet Apple is doing their best to keep it quiet. Are the 4 dead pixels on the 2nd iPad in the same place as on the first? Any chance they gave you back your original iPad?

They are in the same place, however the 2nd iPad was still sealed so no chance of that.

I had 2 dead pixels on my first one, but the biggest problem on my first one was it had 5-7 pieces of dustbunder the screen. One of them was pretty large and dead center on the screen. My second unit has no dead pixels but does have 2 pieces of dust under the screen but they are hardly noticeable with the screen on so Im just going to keep this one.

From what I understand, dead pixels were an issue with the iPhones also. There was another user here who went through four iPads at an Apple store before they found one that did not have dead pixels. In that case, the Apple rep opened up each iPad to check for dead pixels. I think there may be bad batches or something.

Sorry for the hijack, but does anyone, along the edges of their ipad, have terrible light bleed to the point where it looks yellowish-green when it should be black? This only happens on two points of the pad and the make 1centimeter radius with semi circle shapes.

I had some stuck pixels when mine arrived on Saturday. They wouldn't have been so bad, but the darkest one was right smack in the middle of the screen. I went back to the Apple store on Monday and exchanged it for a new model. I checked mine there immediately and it was blissful perfection!

Take it back and get a new one. Promptly open it and have them plug it in so that you can get to the home screen. I opened Safari and checked everything out against the white background.

I have to admit, my excitement was somewhat diminished on Saturday, but was reignited when I got to play with my new, not dead pixel iPad.

I know it's an inconvenience, but it is so worth being happy!

I'm going through the same thing with Apple. Both of my units had more than 4 dead pixels that were instantly noticeable when you pulled up safari.

I'm not sure what process Apple uses to check it's screens but it's
clearly not working. I decided to wait it out because I hate opening units and returning them etc.

So it looks like Apple is going to send me a new one and let me hold on to the old one until it arrives. Then I'll just ship the old one back.

They also are going to send me the iPad case and the 10w USB Power Adapter as free gifts for the trouble Ive had. I would say that I'm pretty satisfied with that deal.

I had a speck of dust under the screen that just kept staring at me on light backgrounds.

Today, I went to an Apple store 30min after the mall had opened. The mall itself was pretty vacant, but the Apple store was packed. I didn't have an appointment and according to the Genius board the next available appt was at 2 hours later. An Apple Store employee walked up to me, I explained the situation, and he got someone from the back. She took a look at it, then she went into the back and came back with a brand new iPad. She then offered to hook it up so we could make sure nothing was wrong with the new one.

This was only the second time I've been to an Apple store (first time was just browsing), and considering how hectic it was the quality of service was superb. However, the OP's end result kind of makes me wish I called instead. :p
