I have a 2.16 mbp. and recently have been starting to have issues burning to dvd-r discs.

they worked fine for a couple months but now when I want to burn something it just attempts to read the blank dvdr and spits it back out. typically if i keep putting the disc back in over and over again it will eventually realize its a blank disc and allow me to burn (using toast or disc utility)

i use taiyo discs which have never had this problem but now it's developing..

any troubleshooting ideas?

i can read standard dvds no problem, i can burn to cdr no problem,

i also have this issue reading any dvdr media as well. it will spin up in the drive but never mount the media on the desktop. (can't manual mount using disc utility either)

Can you bring it to an Apple Store?

I had a problem like this one time, but I did a fresh reinstall of OSX on my laptop, and it fixed it. Maybe try that?

Just backup all information on it and take it to an Apple store. You never know, they might even give you a new one.
