Well, my Powermac Quad shipment is still on order, but I decided to order some of the extras so I could have them here when the computer got here.

Among other things, I bought an additional 2GB RAM from Newegg.

Now, I've always been careful when buying RAM and I have no idea what crazy thought crossed my mind, but I decided to buy 2x1GB of the Corsair Valueselect RAM for the Quad. I hear the RAM is fine....for PCs. I come to find out now that it can cause kernal panics on picky Powermacs, something I don't need on a new workstation.

Crucial has their 2x1GB on their site for around $270. Newegg has the same deal for $215.

I plan on calling Newegg on Monday to see if I can return the unopened Corsair RAM to them in exchange for the Crucial RAM and pay the difference, but I needed to know three things:

1) Has anyone successfully used Corsair Valueselect RAM in their Powermac?

2) Anyone with experience with Newegg: will they accept unopened returns and credit towards new purchases with no restocking fees?

3) Is the Crucial RAM on Newegg the same product that Crucial ships directly?

Thanks for any help. I'd rather not start off my Quad experience with painful freezing and kernal panics...

Newegg does not allow exchanges on anything. They only allow returns for refunds (you have to pay a restocking fee) or you can exchange for the same exact thing. Just read neweggs site, it spells it out clearly.

khisayruou,

Thanks for the info. I suppose I'll just have to give it a shot on Monday and see what they say.

Any word from anyone as to my other questions? Is the Crucial RAM the same on Newegg as it is on Crucial?
